Bad Component video signal on Wii because of ... external harddisk?

Stupid screen problem

I found that when I use the Composite connection to conenct my Wii to my DELL 24 inch Ultrasharp monitor, the screen will stay in a specific screen aspect ratio mode all the mode. Problem comes with I switch between virtual console and regular wide screen Wii game. All the Virtual Console screen got squahsed. It was not horrible, but it's a bit anonying. Sure I can manually change the aspect ratio, but I was wondering if there's any better way to solve this problem.

And using Component cable does NOT solve the problem. In fact, by testing the component cable, I found something very odd: the USB harddisk cable I hooked at the back of the Wii actually affect the VIDEO SIGNAL. In fact, the signal was PRETTY BAD when using the component cable with USB harddisk hooked to the Wii. Using Compsosite cable and I still see a little bit of the noise, but not terribly bad.

Since I stick with the USB harddisk, so so long to the Component cable for Wii.

I also tried different cables. Not much help. Come to think of is, maybe the casing of the external USB harddisk box has something to do with it.
